bOARD & tRAIN

Don’t have time to commit to a daily or weekly training program?
do you feel your dog needs a little more structured environment to keep him/her focused?
a Board & Train program may be just what you & your dog need and WE ARE HERE TO HELP.
Our Board & Train programs focus on implementing structure and boundaries. We are balanced trainers that customize training based on the needs of your dog and goals you have set as the owner. We emphasize building a bond with your dog. With that said, we begin training by gaining trust and building a relationship. Trust and respect are key in developing any kind of bond. Once this foundation is set, we get into the fun stuff.
Your dog will get plenty of training during their stay with WK9WW along with exercise, play and downtime. We treat your dog as if it were our own and care for him/her as if it were one of our own. We understand this is a big investment and that it can be difficult to be away from your dog…we love our dogs too, but we also pride ourselves on our training program and sending you a “re-booted” version of your dog.
“Rebooting” your dog’s behavior requires a lot of focused work, higher level of consistency and training in different environments to get your dog to a base level of control. Some dogs demonstrate unwanted or unsafe problem behavior, including, but not limited to: dog-to-dog aggression, human aggression, resource/food guarding, separation anxiety, excessive barking, mouthing, nipping, jumping, leash reactivity and extreme fear-based behaviors.
A Board & Train program is best suited to address these areas of concern.
Typically our Board & Train programs are in a kennel-like environment where there are a higher number of dogs in the area allowing for stimulation and distraction that your dog would normally experience in common situations. This application aids to ensure the rules, structure and obedience we teach translate directly to real life.
4 week Board & train
Most suited for dogs with previous obedience training, dogs that need to fine-tune commands and/or dogs that acclimate well to new environments and surroundings and need a basic course to lay down a structured foundation. Basics are reviewed and include, but are not limited to: loose leash walking, implied sit, stay, heel, basic social manners.
As with all the Board & Train options, the program is customized to meet the specific needs of the dog and handler.
6 week Board train
The 6 week program works well with dogs that have some issues with separation anxiety, socialization and concerns with fear-based actions and behavior. Obedience is still reviewed and trained and level of training intensity may be advanced to include longer stay, intro to recall and advanced environmental work. The extended time in this program allows the dog time to acclimate to the new environment along with learning what the expectations of training and the trainer are. Dogs learn more and the best when they are comfortable and feel they can trust the trainer; the two additional weeks allows them this time to relax and situate themselves. And although the initial two weeks is a “settling in” period, training begins from day 1, it is just customized to meet the needs of the dog.
8 week Board & train
(Includes 5 private sessions at our location after the completion of the Board & Train program along with 2 private in-home sessions)
This option allows for dogs with some behavioral concerns such as separation anxiety, socialization adaptations, issues with fear-based actions and behavior along with aggression concerns an extended time to adapt to a stable and structured foundation. This program also works well with stubborn dogs who just need time to understand what is being asked of them. Trust is formed between dog and trainer and the learning process can grow organically. This program option consists of a higher level of consistency and training and focused work. Results are prominently seen as the dog has been consistently instilled with teachings for an extended period of time. For handlers who want to really hone in on commands and fine tune obedience, this program is also a great option.
And as always, the program, regardless of which you choose, is geared to meet the specific needs of the dog and handler.
2 week refresher course
(Must have already completed a Board & Train Program with WK9WW)
This is a great option if you have been unable to maintain your dog’s training at home. During this time we will go over all the skills your dog learned during their most recent Board & Train program. This course provides dedicated time spent training with your dog, teaching the skills again that went unmaintained. There will be a handover session, as well, at pick up which goes over the skills your dog re-learns and a refresher for the handler on how to maintain them at home.
During Board & Train programs, we connect with your dogs so when they make a return, it’s always a pleasure.
